On the back, in pen: "(d. 1738) David Pugh, widower (first settler in Radnor) / married Katherine Price / He brought this chair from Wales / It was given to Mrs. T. Wistar Brown / by Miss Sarah Henry, who was a friend / and lived with Cousin Margaret Baugh. / Chair is now in Mrs. Brown's attic."
On the back, in pencil: "The chair, if brought from / Wales in the first settlement, / was a straight chair and had / rockers added later. / Since this picture was taken the / chair has miraculously acquired a / new bulbous stretcher. KHC"
