Woodcrest: Portrait of a Main Line Estate, A photo exhibit of the Cabrini College campus as it was in the early 1900s featuring rare platinum prints. John Chew, a noted photographer, spoke about the exhibit. Hors d’oeurves and beverages were served. (This event was announced separately.)

Tuesday, October 9, 7:30 p.m. at Radnor Friends Meeting, corner of Conestoga Road and Route 320
Lecture about the history of this property located in the Ithan district of Radnor, including its Welsh roots, followed by a tour. Caroline Cherry, Chair of the English Department at Eastern University and Associate Editor of the journal, Quaker History, will be the speaker. Refreshments will be served.

Sunday October 28, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at “Thornhedge,” 260 Chamounix Road, St. Davids, the baronial home of Kathy and Gary Papa
A Halloween celebration oriented to children with wonderful indoor and outdoor decorations and refreshments. Please stop by with your children and grandchildren to enjoy the Papa’s wonderful Halloween display.

Tuesday, December 4, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Finley House, 113 W. Beechtree Lane
Ted Pollard, President of RHS and Board member Bennett Hill, both experts on our collections, will lead a tour that highlights the best and most interesting of all the objects and documents in the care of the Society. Refreshments will be served.

Sunday, December 30, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Finley House
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens: Bennett Hill will read an abridged version of this classic Christmas tale by the fire in the front parlor. Refreshments will be served at the interval.

Tuesday, March 11, 7:30 p.m. at the Winsor Room, Radnor Memorial Library
Marilyn Caltibiano, director emerita of the library, will moderate an oral history panel of older Wayne residents who have lived in the area their entire lives. This event is co-sponsored by the Radnor Historical Society and the Radnor Memorial Library. The Library plans to record the proceeding as part of its on-going oral history project. Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, April 8, 6:00 p.m. at Beaupre, Rosemont Presbyterian Village
The Society’s Annual Dinner will be held at Rosemont Presbyterian Village. This site was once the home of Robert Kelso Cassatt, son of Pennsylvania Railroad president Alexander Cassatt and nephew of the painter Mary Cassatt, and his wife, Minnie Drexel Fell, granddaughter of Anthony J. Drexel. Their estate, Beaupre, was built in 1901, and designed by Cope & Stewardson. The dining room wing, where we will be hosted for hors d’oeuvres, wine, soft drinks and dinner, was added in 1908 with an enhanced French décor that reflects the family’s Gallic background. A speaker to be announced will discuss the history of Beaupre and lead us on a brief tour.

Wednesday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the Winsor Room, Radnor Memorial Library
The Radnor Historical Society and the Radnor Memorial Library are pleased to co-sponsor a lecture by Tuskegee airman, Eugene J. Richardson. The Tuskegee Airmen were America’s first black military airmen and served during World War II. Refreshments will be served. (Event rescheduled from February due to weather)

Sunday, April 27, 4:00 p.m. at the home of Sue and John Smith, One Wistar Road, Villanova
Maps guide us, intrigue us, and tell us stories. The Smiths will open their home for our Annual Meeting, and host an exhibition of antique and modern maps from John’s extensive collection. The exhibition will take us on a six-century journey from the pre-Colombian world, through the Age of Discovery, to modern satellite-generated imagery. Sometimes starkly, sometimes beautifully, these maps describe the halting, adventurous, and occasionally laughable way in which we have come to understand our planet. There will also be maps of regional and local interest. Refreshments will be served.

Sunday, May 4, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Mansion on the Cabrini College Campus
Tours of historic Woodcrest Mansion at Cabrini College sponsored by the College. Tours will be offered from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., leaving on the half hour and taking about 1 1/2 hours to complete. Since there is a good deal of walking and stair-climbing, the tour is not recommended for young children or those with disabilities. Cost is $15.00 ($5.00 for students and seniors over 65). Sunday, May 18, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. starting from the home of Sandy and Bruce Gilbert at 142 West Wayne Avenue in South Wayne
The Radnor Historical Society and the Radnor Conservancy are pleased to sponsor the fourth annual History Mystery Tour. This year we will take a walking tour of South Wayne, stopping at designated historic sites, each with its own interpreter. At each site you will be asked to discover the answer to a related “mystery” question. Refreshments will be served, and there will be a prize drawing for those who answer the mystery questions correctly.(EVENT RESCHEDULED DUE TO WEATHER)
